How to get there
Considered the most emotionally potent of all Rodgers and Hammerstein’s works, this show will both challenge and inspire you.
As artists, we are aware of the problematic way in which domestic violence is discussed and responded to in Carousel. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, based on Ferenc Molnar's "Liliom", presents deeply human, flawed relationships caught in generational cycles of abuse. As much as we would like to think our society is beyond these patterns and attitudes, we still live in a world where 1 in 3 women will personally experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Sometimes art is the honest reflection we need to spark action.
Our hope in telling this story is to be challenged by what we see and to open more pathways for individual healing and systemic change. As with all our shows, Carousel will be presented in partnership with local organizations doing the work of reconciliation, restoration, and healing.
The lobby will open 30 minutes before each show and will have concessions as well as information from a variety of local organizations working to support change and healing for those who have experienced domestic violence.
